Come to know about our Environmental Study!

7

On May, 23rd, 2017, Tuesday, our group went to Santos. In the middle of the way, we had the opportunity to visit a neighborhood called Cota.
This visit made us to have a profounded study about sustainability, understanding more the issues of disorderly urbanization.
But calm down! First of all, we will explain every detail about the Cota neighborhood and, above all, about Cota 200. We will also talk about the dangers and environmental impacts that Cota brings and generates ... Maybe, you could better understand what sustainability is, right?
Cota neighborhood is formed by old communities which are more than 60 years old, built in the middle of the woods, before the existence of concern about the conservation of vegetation. The name Cota is due to the neighborhoods are burried  in the mountain range, each occupying a topographic dimension.
Previously, there was a number of neighborhoods that were being occupied, such as 95, 400 and 500. However, people forced to leave the places for safety reasons such as
So, we asked, why Cota 200 was not abandonned?
Well, let's start from the beginning... Cota 200 neighborhood is located in Cubatão, 200 meters from the sea level, near Anchieta Highway.
These people were brought to this place by the government in order to consctruct the Anchieta highway, which is essential for people who live there. Many people were not sure if they moved from  there due to their historical family.
Although this neighborhood is not a sustainable place (it is neither ecologically nor economically correct),  it is located in a sustainable region, in the largest Atlantic Forest reserve in the country ....
But, in case, you are thinking that nobody leaves there, you are completely wrong. Many people had to move, willing or not, considering safety issues. Nowadays, in danger areas, instead of houses, we can see "flashes" of land in the middle of the forest and destroyed of shacks scattered on the top of the occupations.
The CDHU (State Housing and Urban Development Company) wants to transform Cota 200 neighborhood  into a sustainable region.

The goal of the project is to implement sustainability solutions for the neighborhood. Sustainable construction, water reuse, materials recycling, appearance enhancements and the application of renewable energy are some of the measures planned for Cota 200, a historic area of irregular occupation in Serra do Mar.

Conclusion

Now, we are finishing our last post, and with this Blog, we realized the diverse points of sustainability, that many times are not present...
