Two days ago, we conducted our Environmental Study that we
were talking about in previous posts. At the end of the visit to the Cota 200
neighborhood, people from the neighborhood made lunch for us. We also planted
small plants like cacti, to take home ... Oh, it was incredible!
But, calm down! That, first of all, we will explain to
you what we have learned. Now, you are ready to know every detail about the
neighborhoods Cota and, especially, the Cota 200! Uhul!
The Cota neighborhoods are old communities, more than
60 years old, built in the midst of the forest, before there is concern for the
preservation of vegetation. They have this name because they are embedded in
the mountain range, each occupying a topographic dimension. It sounds crazy,
right? However, it is not! Do you believe?
Before, there were several neighborhoods Quotas that
were being occupied, such as 95, 400 and 500. But the people who were in them
were forced to withdraw because of security concerns. These safety issues range
from house slides because of rainfall to environmental preservation.
The people were brought to the neighborhood Cota 200
by the government, so they carry out the construction of Anchieta ... Anchieta
is essential for the people who live there. And that does not mean that many
people can´t move because of their family history. However, the change had to
happen. After all, they were in dangerous and environmental preservation areas,
were not they?
Cota 200 is not a sustainable neighborhood, it is not
ecologically correct or economically viable. But it is located in a sustainable
region, in the largest Atlantic Forest reserve in the country...
Today, in danger areas, instead of houses, we can see
"flashes" of land in the middle of the forest and wreckage of shacks
spread high in the occupations. The CDHU (State Housing and Urban Development
Company), a state government company, wants to transform the Cota 200
neighborhood into a sustainable region.
The intention of the project is to implement, in the
neighborhood, sustainability solutions. Sustainable construction, water reuse,
materials recycling, improvement of appearance, such as mandalas paintings on
the walls and application of sewage network and sustainable energies are some
measures planned for Cota 200, a historical area of irregular occupation in the
Serra do Mar.
